No need for clouds to go digital anymore. Instead, a company can use an Internet of Edges and go digital while being green, safe and the owner of its data.

The WAOW tool developed in the project Workingage provide Healthcare digital services to enterprises using an Internet of Edges. In an Internet of Edges, enterprise’s data remain local. People and IoT communicates through the edge network deployed on premise. Digital services are hosted locally, on an edge cloud also deployed on premise. Companies with multiple sites can synchronize their edge cloud so that data travel among edges directly without any data going through remote servers nor third party’s cloud. Thus, forming a vast horizontal network of edge clouds which is what we call an Internet of Edges.

Edge-based solutions coupled with horizontal communications significantly reduce the carbon footprint of enterprises’ digital services according to our first estimates. An Internet of Edges is also a highly resilient IT infrastructure. If one edge cloud shuts down, the others are not affected. Cyber-attacks are more difficult on a distributed network of edges rather than on a single centralized cloud. With an Internet of Edges, the enterprise knows where is stored its data, on premises.

The WAOW tool is already in action at EXUS. There, teleworkers are connected to the head office via an Internet of Edges. Hence, teleworkers’ data travel to the enterprise without any intermediary.

See EXUS deployment here:

Two other deployments are about of being set up at an office and a production site for connecting about 50 people and hundreds IoT devices.

We would like to thank these 3 pioneer companies, who opened their premises to host our pilots. They are at the avant-garde of the digital innovation.
